Hong Kong-Shanghai Bank Co. (HBC), Europe’s biggest bank, has offered $10.5 billion for one of Europe’s most profitable banks, Credit Commercial de France. This acquisition is a great example of global monetary consolidation. Money center banks like HSBC, Citigroup, Chase Manhattan Bank and others are moving to monopolize global banking. These firms will control banking, insurance and brokerage services around the world. HSBC and Citigroup clearly have head starts in this banking domination theme. HSBC is the world’s second largest bank. Citigroup of New York is the world’s asset leader. Now, with the removal of restrictions on banking by the last Congress, this monopoly will really prosper.
